Meatbreak Even after just a few days of play (albeit non-stop), this is easily one of my favourite albums of the year – perhaps many years.

A unique combination of psychedelic kosmische ambient, dark dungeon synth, and electronic folk drone inflected with a deeply idiosyncratic Englishness, that channels the formative experimentation of Delia Derbyshire through recent hauntological atmospheres of Ghost Box, mixing the likes of Belbury Poly and Advisory Circle into its own distinct entity. Favorite track: Round-a-Round the Minstrel Tree.

WereGnome Nick It seems with each release my love for Maiden Hairs music grows ever so much. This album however, is in my top picks for AOTY. Favorite track: Trewanmead, 1979.

The residents of Trewanmead, hand in hand each year, devoutly celebrate their annual Wedding Fete: the great marriage of the Minstrel Tree and the Meadow. However, in 1979, Richard Cleary and Adder Group leader Edda Birch perform an ancient ritual, setting fire to the oak tree.
As the flames burn, the smoke rises - forming a great, thunderous and black cloud. The soul of the Minstrel has finally returned, by fate in new form: The Terrible.
